What is penile arterial insufficiency?
Penile arterial insufficiency is a condition characterized by insufficient arterial blood flow to the penis. For an erection to occur, an adequate amount of blood must reach the penile tissue. A decrease in blood flow can negatively affect the quality of an erection.
This condition is particularly common in patients who have been experiencing erectile dysfunction for a long time, in people with diabetes, and in those with a history of cardiovascular disease. Evaluation using penile Doppler ultrasound can provide important information for treatment planning.
